Sherwood was built from 1942-46 and the garden was laid out through to early 1950’s. We bought the property in 1973 and proceeded to restore and enlarge the garden to its present size of 1 ¼ acres.

Planting and creating new “rooms” proceeded through the 80’s using the original trees as canopy and background.

The slate roof on the house dates back to the 1850’s & the odd sized bluestone pieces on the left edge of the Lilydale toppings drive were part of Pentridge Prison and probably date back to the 1860’s

Much use has been made of recycled materials, such as quarried stone, rocks, bricks, bluestone and over the years, 2nd hand timbers.

Spring is a wonderful time to visit the garden with its rush of vibrant colours, plus foliage contrasts of many shades of green, gold & red.

Summer is shady & dry with the odd splash of colour and much time spent producing fresh organic
vegetables.

Autumn is spectacular with leaves turning to brilliant shades of reds, orange & gold from mid March to June. Winter is a restful time & the deciduous trees allow us to see the “bones” of the garden & enjoy views of nearby Mt Donna Buang.

Several projects are planned for future
development, such as:

Our philosophy on a garden is:

It is a living, dynamic, changing creation that is never finished.
